Road construction

Just thinking of this might elicit certain…feelings. Ever been in a hurry and had to stop at an extra light due to one lane traffic? On a road you travel often? AND you had no idea it was happening TODAY? IYKYK, am I right?

Life can be this way and building new habits is exactly this way. You start off energized and excited for this new adventure. Maybe you’re thinking things like:

This time I’m going to get it right.

I can’t wait to see progress.

I’m going to show up every day for the next year ready to go.

I won’t miss a beat, no matter what.

I WILL SHOW UP CONSISTENTLY.

Then life happens. Old habits and patterns are EASIER. They creep back in and then your brain starts to really derail you with negative thinking.

Oh well, I guess this is just me.

Why did you think this would work?

You aren’t THAT person.

It’s fine. It’s doesn’t really matter.

You’ll never get this figured out.

It’s too hard.

This is the unexpected stoplight. This is the place that matters. What will you do WHEN, because it will, this day comes? What happens now?

This is actually a critical point in habit changing. Every time it happens is a chance to return and it’s exactly where the magic happens. Can you see it as an opportunity?

  • Recognize and breathe.

  • Reach out.

  • Re-route.

You got this and I’m here for you.
